SYMPOSIUM TO ADDRESS ASIAN-AMERICAN PASTORAL LEADERSHIP

Asian American church leaders and others will gather at the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, Calif., April 22-24 to review and discuss a preliminary Pulpit & Pew report on Asian American pastoral leadership.

The report, commissioned in 2002 by Pulpit & Pew, outlines major trends and challenges in Asian and Pacific Islander American ministerial leadership, based upon an extensive review of existing research literature.

"We're wanting to bring together a broad range of Asian American Christian leaders to reflect on the report and share their ministerial insights," said the Rev. Timothy Tseng, the study coordinator and an associate professor of American religious history at American Baptist Seminary of the West.

At the April symposium, denominational leaders, scholars, theological educators and others will discuss the preliminary report and help draft an agenda for future research initiatives. A final report will be published next fall.

The research project is a collaborative effort by Pulpit & Pew, the Asian American Center at the American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkeley, Calif., the Institute for Leadership Development and Study of Pacific and Asian North American Religion, Berkeley, and the L2 Foundation, Washington, D.C.

Denominational leaders, pastors, scholars, representatives of Asian American theology and ministry centers, and others with special interest in Asian American leadership issues are encouraged to attend.

Registration is $40 until Feb. 29 and $50 after that date. Students may be eligible for a specially discounted registration fee.
